We are thrilled to announce that the first ever Barkers took place at the Rex cinema, Leicester Square, London, on Monday June 19 2006. A glittering event to celebrate the silver screen's finest canine moments is brought to you by the organizers of the prestigious annual Palm Dog Award presented in Cannes, now in its 7th fabulous year.
The Barkers is a necessary addition to the frenetic awards season, honouring the until now, somewhat neglected filmic contributions of dogs from all over the globe. Our pooch performance panel includes James Christopher (The Times) Derek Malcolm (Evening Standard), and dog loving French living legend Antoine de Caunes. For high style sensibility, up town milliner for Dior and Galliano Stephen Jones, completes the line-up
The event was hosted by journalist, film producer and Barkers organizer Toby Rose. "Ever since I first saw Lassie as a child I have marveled at some stupendous performances by dogs in films from all genres. And then came along Mutley. Born in Champagne, sprinkled in stardust and touched by genius."
